Theodore B. Zahariadis

Th. B. Zahariadis was born in Chalkida, Greece in 1972. He received the Dipl.- Ing. degree from the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department, University of Patra, Greece, in 1994. His graduate thesis was in the area of Distributed Databases. He built a Virtual Library System interconnecting the X.500 "Directory" suit and Oracle database.

Thesis Advisor: Prof. D. Maritsas

Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, in the field of Integrated Broadband Networks. His Ph.D. thesis is "Distributed Broadband Architecture for Interactive Multimedia Services".

Significant Labours

Hardware and Software design of a home safety system based on M68HC11 single chip microcomputer.
Design, implementation and integration part of the kernel of a UNIX like Operating System, that faces the Trashing problem. A Long Term and a Medium Term Scheduler with multiple priority queues were built, that concerned system load and starvation avoidance.
Theoretical estimation and experimental evaluation of the processing and communication overheads of the Intel iPSC/2 (Hypercube) parallel computer, in order to optimize video processing algorithms.
Implementation of an image processing tool. The tool implemented some image processing and compression algorithms in order to reduce noise and improve the image quality.
Implementation of a MPEG-II software encoder, which block estimation
Design and implementation of a Native NBMA Networking (N3) protocol stack

Working Experience

1997		Technical Consultant, Intrasoft R&D, TMN Products
1996		Software Engineer in a Telecommunication Satellite Simulation tool for INTRACOM. INTRACOM’s Internet over Satellite (IoS) product which won the 1997 European IT Prize was based on this tool.
1994 - to date		Research Associate, Telecommunications Lab, Electrical & Computer Eng. Dept., National Technical University of Athens Research Associate, Institute of Communications Systems and Computers, National Technical University of Athens Participated in the European Research projects RACE BRAVE, ACTS AMUSE, EURORIM, DOLMEN, and DRIVE II/SCOPE, ENTRANCE, Telematics EUROSCOPE projects as a research engineer.
1994		Software Engineer in the project TSTAR (Traffic Simulation Tool for Attika Ring) a co-operation between INTRACOM and CTI. The tool simulates telephone networks and routes the calls to switching centers according to traffic and load conditions.
